With its vibrant community life, and intriguing history, the market town of Wallingford has much to offer residents and visitors alike. The first settlers in Wallingford were drawn here by the River Thames – and the river is still one of the town’s great attractions. There’s plenty more besides to enjoy here – an appealing town centre boasting a great selection of independent shops and restaurants, regular markets, all kinds of fascinating corners to explore and beautiful villages and countryside all around. And if you live or work in Wallingford, there are all kinds of ways to get involved in the life of our thriving community. Wallingford has something for everyone – as we very much hope you will discover when you browse this site.

The Wallingford Partnership Ltd is putting together a bid for funding from the South East Development Agency (SEEDA). We want to submit this bid to improve Wallingford through a focus on exploiting the Town’s rich history. Our history has given us many opportunities to improve life for residents, welcome visitors and support our local businesses and we want to build on that. We want Wallingford to remain quintessentially English and independent. We want to have a thriving town for shops, the Market Place, business and tourism. We aim to make the most of what we have by looking at the future, without forgetting our past.

Four public meetings have been held to brief local residents, Parish Councils, members of South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) and Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) and to get their views and comments. These events have been well attended and the feedback most useful in the process of helping us to decided which projects to take forward. Clearly some of the ideas will need to be looked at by SODC and OCC and the Partnership will pass on the information to those authorities.
The next stage is to decide which projects are suitable to take forward for SEEDA funding. It is our intention to make our bid in August but in the meantime we will be obtaining quotations for the work as well as securing match funding from other sources.
